About Us
Serving as the only adult dance company in Frederick, Equinox Dance Company (EDC) strives to promote dance as an expressive art form, as well as a physical activity, throughout the community by means of both performance and educational lectures. EDC is a highly diverse company, fusing jazz and tap with its contemporary modern-based background. Consisting of approximately fifteen devoted dancers, this troupe's talents shine not only through their dancing abilities, but also through their creative choreographic skills.
Equinox Dance Company presents an annual performance every spring, which showcases an eclectic mix of dance styles. EDC's repertoire consist of works by company members, as well as guest artists including LeAnne McFadden, resident choreographer for Phoenix Productions; Mary Tawa, artistic director of TAWA Dance Company; Esperanza Alzona, formerly of the Baltimore Ballet and American Dance Ensemble, Gina Korrel, artist director and owner of 24/7 dance Studio; Bonnie Slawson, Artistic Director of Motion Mania Dance Company; Kathryn Ferguson, formerly of the Salisbury University Dance Company; and Yara Jahrling, dance major at Muehlenberg College. In addition to the spring performance, Equinox also performs at Frederick community events, such as DanceFest and In The Street. Equinox also hosts an annual Children's Show, with proceeds benefiting a local charitable organization.
