In December of 1870, Dr. L. Ullmann dedicated his three-story building which he used for his medical office. Over the past half-century the building at 109 Park Central Square has had many uses: a fine dress shop, an opera rehearsal hall, and an art gallery. Now the owners, Jim and Molly Faulkner, are pleased to offer unique one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture and an ever-changing selection of antiques. We are happy to offer our services to dealers, designers and you, the customer directly.

We purchased this building in 1984 and saw great potential, although it resided in a neglected and almost uninhabited section of the historic square. In 1993, we opened Encore Gallery in an effort to assist local artists and art groups. One year later, the Springfield Regional Opera Company leased a part of Encore Gallery for their business office and rehearsal hall. As Molly was a member of the SRO Board of Directors at the time, she overheard the director discussing the difficulty in finding Egyptian furniture for their up-coming season opener, “The Magic Flute” and their next production which would need 13th Century Italian furniture. When she told her husband, Jim, of the situation he decided to buy a welder and attempt to help them out. The learning curve on those first few projects was very steep, indeed! Every project taught him something about scale, proportion and what not to cut, smash , or bruise! But now, he looks forward to unusual or large-scale projects.

Encore Gallery specializes in such items as console tables and large-scale kitchen pieces, iron beds and settees, and accessories for kitchens, bedrooms and baths. Whether a large-scale baker’s rack with a marble work surface or a salvaged architectural element used in a new exciting way, Encore Gallery takes pride in offering custom service at a fraction of the expected expense.
