The Department of Arts, Recreation & Culture (ARC), working in close cooperation with the Hamden Departments of Community Services, Arts Commission and other town agencies and volunteer groups develop and maintain a slate of recreational and cultural opportunities for Hamden residents. Members of the ARC staff maintain active memberships in statewide, regional and national associations and obtain the most up to date information and strategies for the delivery of recreational and cultural services to all town residents.

The mission of Hamden's Department of Arts, Recreation & Culture is to provide leadership and expertise in the development, administration and supervision of a comprehensive program of recreational and cultural opportunities for the citizens of the town. A collaboration of staff, volunteers and agencies, both public and private, makes this possible. The effect of this union results in access for all citizens regardless of age, sex, ethnicity or economic status.
