History :
The arts are such an important part of our community, not only providing entertainment but also bringing education and culture to all. Charlotte's Web for the Performing Arts provides the perfect vehicle for both established and emerging artists to reach their audiences. Since its "birth" in 1972, and its "rebirth" in 1989 as a not for profit organization, Charlotte's Web has featured the best of local, national and international folk, blues, world music, dance and theater while adapting to several transformations. Various fund raising efforts as a newly formed not for profit organization led to temporary renovations of the nationally recognized concert club and two seasons of weekly performances and monthly children's shows. In June of 1992, the decision was made to put all monies raised into the arts, not bricks. For the 1992-1993 season, the Web shared space with a downtown restaurant and blues club, continuing weekly programming. At the end of the season, the board of directors revised our mission and goals and the Web began utilizing a variety of venues, hiring professional sound and light companies for each event and seeking collaborations with many diverse groups. 2005-2006 marks the Web's 12th "portable" season and this latest incarnation allows for great opportunities. We are able to use some of the nicest facilities in town as we match each original performance to the appropriate venue. We hope you'll join us in supporting the independent artists and their originality as they continue to enrich our lives. It is the mission of Charlotte's Web for the Performing Arts "to enhance the cultural life of our community by providing a diversity of the performing arts".
