Our History

1974
A group of enthusiastic people noted a lack of non-professional performing opportunities in the Cobb County area and decided to remedy that immediately. With the help of the Smyrna Parks and Recreation Dept., they formed the "Smyrna Community Theatre" and performed at Griffin Middle School.

1975
After just a few shows, the new theatre company outgrew its temporary home and moved to the Cobb Civic Center Theatre, where they stayed for several years! During that time, the name was changed to CenterStage Smyrna.

1983-1984
CenterStage North was officially adopted as the new name for the troupe as board at the time did not want to be limited to a specific city. In 1984, the IRS granted CenterStage North official non-profit status. To celebrate, CSN started giving back to the community by performing in nursing and retirement homes in addition to the regular season.

1985
We were invited by a local playwright to produce his work at a small performance space, The Steeple House Arts Center. That space eventually grew into The Art Place – Mt View. CSN decided to stay and start developing a real season, with shows planned in advance and a season subscription package.

2019
CenterStage North is proud to be one of the Resident Theatre companies at The Art Place – Mt View. With a 5-show season starting in 2020 and a growing subscriber base, we are looking forward to a long future of producing theatre in Cobb County.
