As a band name, The Big Note is a mystical concept borrowed from Frank Zappa. Think of it as a place of many songs, many dance moves, West African rhythms, delicious cocktails, romance, lyrics that have come down from ancient stone tablets—music that is forever relevant and happening now, when we need it. The band includes pianist Kent Allyn, a veteran of 43 years in the Big Note adventure; Dr. Milt Reder as guitar savant; Jesse Williams on bass for over 20 years; and new drummer Jim Gwin (who also plays with the Boston Pops). “We started in 1975 and we are just now, as we approach the Music Hall Loft, hitting our stride.”
