The Augusta Curtis Cultural Center, Inc. is a new organization with a long history.  Formed in September, 2000, it works out of the century old, marble Greek Revival Curtis Memorial building, located in the center of Meriden across from City hall.

The building has a special place in the history of Meriden's cultural development.  The building not only housed the city's first public library, but it is also an example of local philanthropy.  Though its use as a library stopped over 25 years ago, the building has always served as a reminder of the community culture.  When the building was in need of renovation, the citizens of Meriden again rose to the occasion and worked with the city to raise awareness and guide the project to fruition.

Mission Statement

Rooted in the historically rich backdrop of greater Meriden, the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center is dedicated to the cultivation and exploration of diverse avenues of culture, the arts, humanities and sciences in the Connecticut community.

Statement of Goals

1. To preserve the former public library as a venue and forum for the presentation of cultural and educational events.

2. To involve the community in a selection of cultural and educational events and happenings that are reflective of its diverse population so that the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center becomes a familiar and comfortable space for all.

3. To make the ACCC a self-sustaining and independent institution both financially and organizationally.
