Arts Incubator

115 West 18th Street

About Us:
Most artists who graduate from art institutions do not have the business skills required to establish self-sustaining careers in the arts. The Arts Incubator of Kansas City is a nonprofit organization dedicated to working with these emerging artists in the development of their careers.

In addition to business workshops and consulting, AIKC provides affordable, quality studio space in the Crossroads Arts District, a community experiencing extraordinary growth and national recognition as one of the top arts communities in the nation.

History:
With $1,300 in the bank and four artists, AIKC opened its doors in October 2001, one month after the worst tragedy in recent U.S. history. Since then, AIKC has not only survived when many didn´t, but thrived, growing to 32 resident members with space for 55 artist studios as well as maintaining shared shops, community workspaces, and two galleries.

This 32,000 sq. ft. facility consists of three floors with 10,125 sq. ft. per floor and a 1700 sq. ft. basement. The Bauer Machine Works Company built the building in 1903. It was originally a two-story 10,000 sq. ft. building. In 1909, a third floor was added, and in 1922 the east and south sides were built to bring it to its current size.
