Alaska's Need
The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame will foster and instill the positive attributes of sport.
Alaska has a rich tradition in sports. Its timeline weaves through the fabric of life from the centuries-old Alaska Native games, to the dog weight-pulls of the Klondike era, to the early 20th century alpine exploration on Denali, to the serum run and subsequent Iditarod dogsled race, to excellence in winter sports and mountaineering, to outstanding achievements in mainstream American sports.
Alaskan sports at their best provide youth with positive role models, promote healthy lifestyles, teach life skills (leadership, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship) and are a source of pride to the people of the state.
Alaska Sports Hall of Fame will be a beacon of the positive values of sport. It will be a resource to all people for which sports plays a role in their well-being and development. ASHOF will work for and with the Alaskan community to contribute to a healthier and more dynamic population.
