The 15^th Annual African American Community Heritage Festival concludes Austin's celebration of Black History Month. This year's festival features musical performances, arts and crafts, food, and a health fair, which all highlight the talent and contributions of Austin's African American community.

The festival takes place Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Huston-Tillotson University (900 Chicon Street) in East Austin. State Representative Dawnna Dukes is organizing the event in partnership with Huston-Tillotson University, Women in Jazz, City of Austin, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.

The 2014 African American Community Heritage Festival is a free event with activities suitable for all ages. The festival celebrates the coming together of individuals to strengthen the community with a focus on family fun and community outreach. This is a day for fun, food, and family, complete with live entertainment, interactive and educational activities for children, and a variety of artistic performances.

Festival attendees can enjoy live musical performances from Grammy Award-winning artist Howard Hewitt, "Austin's First Lady of Jazz" Pam Hart, Soultree Collective, the award-winning Reagan High School Marching Band, and the dance group Step N Motion. There will be additional dance performances from FLAVA Dance Company and Tropical Productions.

Mayor Pro-tem Sheryl Cole and the Major Taylor Club of Austin, which promotes cycling in minority communities, are leading a bicycle ride during the festival

As the community comes together for an afternoon of entertainment, fun, and celebration, festival go-ers further support the East Austin community as funds from the festival go towards the Huston-Tillotson University Scholarship Program.
