About Us:
Founded in 1994 by M.D. Sweeney as the ACME Comedy Workshops, the ACME Comedy School is now under the direction of Artistic Director Travis Oates. The ACME School offers classes and workshops in Improvisational, Sketch, and Stand up Comedy. Through five intensive levels of instruction in a supportive and structured environment, students of the primary program will find their funny and learn to hone their comedic talents.
Enrollment in the primary ACME program is the only way to become a performer in one of our prestigious and award winning ensembles. There are three levels of Improve training: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. After Advanced training, students have two avenues of continued advancement available to them. If they want to continue honing their improve skills, they may be invited to join Yankee Company, ACME's junior improve performance group. From there, the next step would be Zebra Company, named one of "LA's Premier Improve Groups" in 2005. The other path open to students is Sketch Comedy Training. After Advanced Improve a student may opt to go into the Writing Program.
