Cabot Creamery Cooperative and its fellow sponsors and supporters announce the 2012 Community Tour, a two-month program celebrating those who give their hearts, time and skills to strengthen communities. The tour kicks off on Saturday, May 12 in Miami, Florida, and continues North, closely following the route of the East Coast Greenway and culminating in Portland, Maine, on July 7th, the International Day of Cooperatives. The Tour features eight major weekend stops in key cities along the northerly route (Miami, Charleston, Durham, Fredericksburg, Wilmington, New York City, Providence and Portland). While events and activities will vary by market, the overall theme of cooperatives, community service and volunteerism will be the hallmark of each celebration.
Kicking off their initiative in Miami, The Cabot Community Tour has partnered with the Volvo Ocean Race Miami located at Bicentennial Park in the heart of Downtown Miami. The Downtown Miami Race Village will be full of entertainment including the Cabot Village Area. Activities in the Cabot Village Area will include cooking and cheese-making demonstrations, a Cabot photo booth, the Florida Dairy Farmers Association and a host of other activities designed to bring families, friends and neighbors together to celebrate the spirit of the community. Guest will also be able to see the riders who are participating in the 2,300 mile bike ride up the East Coast Greenway (the traffic-free path linking cities from Florida to Maine) enter the Cabot Village around 11:00am and then take-off to continue their journey around 2:00pm.
The farm-family owners of Cabot Creamery Cooperative are proud of their cooperative roots, and farmers have always been an integral part of the communities they serve. The Community Tour coincides with the 2012 International Year of Cooperatives and is designed both to enable Cabot and its partners to promote the virtues of volunteerism, and encourage others to do the same.
