From: Williams College Museum of ArtWCMA Summer Series
Summer is finally in the air, and we will be kicking off our summer series, Construct Your Own Meaning, on Thursday, July 6!
This series of programs invites beer brewers, musicians, young people, and cake artists to interpret WCMA’s collection installation Remixing the Hall from their unique perspectives. Each participant will make a creative response to a work of art that they will present in a program from 5 to 6 p.m. A reception will follow from 6 to 7 p.m.
Join us July 6 for beer brewers, July 20 for musicians, Aug. 3 for young people, and Aug. 17 for cake artists!
Object Lab, summer-style
Every academic semester, Elizabeth Gallerani, WCMA's curator of Mellon Academic Programs, works with faculty from across Williams College to curate Object Lab, our hybrid gallery-classroom that visualizes the Williams liberal arts curriculum through the museum collection.
This summer, we are thrilled to open Object Lab early so that our summer visitors can also experience the diverse array of objects and to engage with the interdisciplinary ideas brought forth in this active, experimental space!
For fall 2023, eight different courses are engaging deeply with our collection in Object Lab. The related projects include reinterpreting cultural objects, responding to weekly prompts about architectural context, designing programming languages, learning the foundations of oil painting, and analyzing the context of movement-based performances.
Summer interns in action
The energy level inside WCMA ramped up this past week as a new cohort of six interns began working at WCMA for the summer as part of the second annual Summer Arts & Museums Immersion Program, which also includes eight more students working at the Clark Art Institute and MASS MoCA.
Here at WCMA, the students are working with curatorial, engagement, communications and development staff this summer to learn about all aspects of museum operations.
The Summer Arts & Museums Immersion Program is a full-time, paid, nine-week internship to provide Williams students the opportunity to explore what it looks like to work in the arts while engaging with a cohort of fellow students.
