From: Williams College Museum of ArtA new remix of Remixing the Hall
We’re excited to announce that Remixing the Hall has been remixed again! WCMA curators collaboratively and regularly rotate the installation, “remixing” it—to borrow a term from DJ culture—by selecting objects from the collection that highlight multivalent correspondences between aesthetics, function, and meaning in art.
This time, one of the galleries is highlighting artworks by Asian American and Asian diasporic artists including paintings by Reuben Tam as well as a recent WCMA acquisition, Women Off Color, a 1993 painting by Hung Liu.
In the larger collection gallery, visitors will see several more recent acquisitions. They will be greeted by Joey Terrill’s 2009 large-scale, mixed-media painting Just What Is It About Today’s ***** That Makes Them So Different, So Appealing? and across the gallery is Jacqueline Bishop’s The Market Woman’s Story, a series of porcelain plates featuring intricate digital collages.
We invite everyone to come see this new installation during our regular public hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

StoryMaps added to Object Lab
Three courses that have been meeting in Object Lab this fall now have StoryMaps, online multimedia stories with interactive elements that encourage viewers to explore art in more detail and contextualize the artwork and assignments for WCMA visitors.
In Professor Stefan Aune’s American Studies 146: Introduction to Native American and Indigenous Studies, students center shifting representations of Native American people within United States history and culture, and consider how Native writers, artists, and activists resist settler colonial mythologies. Students in Professor Michelle Apotsos's Art History 106: An Invitation to World Architecture visit the museum throughout the semester for group discussions during class and on their own for written responses to prompts. And in Professor Catherine Howe’s Art History 229: The Art of Natural History students investigated connections between art and natural science.
Visitors can check out the StoryMaps on any computer or mobile device. Object Lab will close for the semester on Sunday, Dec. 17.

Plonsker lecture now on YouTube
If you missed our annual Plonsker Lecture this fall, you can now watch it on our YouTube channel!
This year’s lecture was given by Florian Idenburg, co-founder of SO-IL, the architecture firm selected to design and build WCMA’s new home in Williamstown. His talk included an historical overview of the evolution of the museum as a building type. He touched on the drivers that have changed our thinking over time and what it means to design a museum for the future. He showed how SO-IL’s previous work is informing the firm’s approach to designing WCMA’s first purpose-built home, set to open in 2027.
The Plonsker Family Lecture Series in Contemporary Art, established in 1994 by Madeleine Plonsker, Harvey Plonsker ’61, and their son, Ted Plonsker ’86, examines current issues in contemporary art.
