From: Williams College Museum of ArtCome celebrate Across Shared Waters
Join us for the opening celebration of Across Shared Waters: Contemporary Artists in Dialogue with Tibetan Art from the Jack Shear Collection! The exhibition presents works by contemporary artists of Himalayan heritage alongside traditional Tibetan Buddhist rolled paintings, or thangka, from the Jack Shear Collection, a juxtaposition that highlights the richness and diversity of Tibetan artistic expression.
On Friday, Feb. 24, view the exhibition and enjoy refreshments in our lounge from 4 to 5 p.m. before a public conversation between guest curator Ariana Maki and two artists who have artwork in the show, Marie-Dolma Chophel and Palden Weinreb, begins at 5 p.m. The conversation will be live-streamed on Zoom (register here) and our YouTube channel.
On Saturday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m., Ariana Maki, exhibition curator and the Associate Director of the University of Virginia Tibet Center and Bhutan Initiative, will give a public tour.
The exhibition only just opened, but we already have received some great publicity for Across Shared Waters. Local arts and culture writers Kate Abbott and Sharon Smullen have written lovely articles on the exhibition, Kate for the Hill Country Observer and By the Way Berkshires and Sharon for the Berkshire Eagle. Also keep an eye out for a story in Berkshire Magazine, in mailboxes, on newsstands, and online in early March.
