Government and Politics

Since the start of the Trump administration, thousands of federal workers, many in Virginia, have been abruptly fired without warning. In response—as any governor should—Maryland Governor Wes Moore stepped up, launching a new website to serve as a one-stop hub for programs and resources aimed at assisting laid-off federal employees.
But in Virginia, home to 145,000 federal workers, Glenn Youngkin and Winsome Earle-Sears haven’t offered any support or resources, instead supporting Trump’s actions. This week, Sears told the Fredericksburg Free Press that fired federal workers will be “all right” and should apply for jobs in the private sector. This comes after Youngkin told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that Virginians who lose their jobs should not be worried because “private sector jobs provide opportunities for any federal workers who lose their government jobs.”
“While Maryland steps up to support laid-off workers, Glenn Youngkin and Winsome Earle-Sears continue to put Trump’s extreme agenda over Virginians’ needs, telling them to simply ‘get another job’—as if it's that easy,” DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker said. “It's time for Youngkin and Sears to stop making excuses and take action to help these workers who are facing uncertain futures. Virginians deserve better.”
