Government and Politics

VIRGINIA - As Winsome Earle-Sears pushes her extreme agenda forward, Virginia leaders are calling her out for her extreme record of opposing reproductive freedom and defending and downplaying the attacks on Virginia jobs.

NBC 29: Delegate Callsen gives thoughts on Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor’s note on a proposed bill

  • Winsome Earle-Sears signed a proposed constitutional amendment to protect reproductive health care. She included a handwritten note saying, I am morally opposed to this bill [...].
  • As President of the Senate, she was legally required to sign the bill to keep the legislative process moving. 54th State Delegate, Katrina Callsen, says it's harmful to Virginians who rely on these protections.
  • “Whoever holds the governorship should certainly respect that passed legislation, especially bipartisan legislation, there's no need to provide additional commentary about it not being good legislation.”
  • “[It’s about] protecting women's rights and access to reproductive health care and keeping politicians out of the doctor's office.”

13 News Now: Del. Feggans on the threat of federal job cuts to Virginians

  • The UVA quarterly economic forecast predicts the Commonwealth will lose 32,000 jobs in 2025 that could cause unemployment to jump to numbers not seen since 2020.
  • We asked Virginia Delegate Michael Feggans about the recent report and what the state is doing to support people who may be losing their jobs.
  • “These cuts are dangerous, and the unfortunate part is we have individuals like our Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, who are saying or acting like it's nothing.”
  • “[...] I don't know many elected officials who would champion job losses, especially, you know, job losses that are happening within their state, and we know, you know it's going to be hurting Northern Virginia, Richmond, southwest Virginia, and Hampton Roads and everywhere in between.”
