An Extraordinary Life: Gaston D Vadasz

[In-person] 6 pm Tuesday July 11th
An Extraordinary Life : Gaston D Vadasz

By any stretch of the imagination, Gaston Delacroix Vadasz, born in 1944, has lived an extraordinary life. Born into World War II as the Nazis marched into Hungary, he grew up in the bosom of his loving family in Budapest who clandestinely cultivated old-world ways against the backdrop of the oppressive Russian-backed Communist puppet regime where the walls had ears.

Early memories abound of idyllic country life. Little did he know that the family he regularly visited in the small village outside the capital had also hidden him during his first two years of life during the war because of his Jewish heritage, which he wouldn’t learn of until well into adulthood.

Gaston, age 12, was on the street, running from one political hotspot to another, on the day of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. Soon after, he and his mother secretly escaped, crossing the border at night over farmland into Austria by foot on a circuitous adventure that eventually landed them in America.

Gaston filled his life with friends, school, sports, the arts...and anything that was fun. His work life eventually brought him to advertising, media, and broadcast management while also marrying his beloved wife Linda of 55 years and starting a family.

In 1994, Gaston was hired by Metromedia International and returned to Budapest to start an American-style music radio station along with Linda, living an exciting fairytale ex-pat life that grew to include building an advertising agency, wine business, vineyard, internet wine portal website, as well as a peregrine falcon-based business. With a love for the spotlight, Gaston also landed acting jobs in major films being produced in Hungary until coming to Martha’s Vineyard in 2013, where he and Linda relish living under the same roof with their daughter and her family—and enthusiastically participating in
