Carter has praised Musk as a “genius” and “business mastermind,” pledged to “work in lockstep” with DOGE
As Elon Musk’s DOGE has illegally accessed Americans’ personal data, pushed cuts to Social Security, and threatened to “delete entire agencies” from the federal government, U.S. Representative Buddy Carter has lauded his efforts every step of the way.
“Never in my time in Washington have I seen momentum quite like this to right-size government spending and cut unnecessary bureaucracy,” Carter wrote in his taxpayer-funded Congressional newsletter on December 8, 2024. “I submit to you that DOGE is exactly the kind of big idea we need to make that happen. Who better to make our government more efficient than two incredibly successful businessmen?”
In a recent appearance on Politically Georgia, Carter pushed Musk to make even deeper benefit cuts, saying “the only thing I would like better than cutting a trillion dollars would be to cut $2 trillion.”
Carter pledged to work with Musk and DOGE in a Daily Caller op-ed from February 11th: “I am ready — and have a plan in place — to work in lockstep with the Trump-Vance Administration and Department of Government Efficiency.”
“Together with Elon Musk, a business mastermind, President Trump is delivering on his promise to the American people that he will remove unnecessary government spending and save taxpayers money,” Carter wrote in his February 9th newsletter.
Now, with the news that Musk-owned Tesla is receiving a $400 million contract to provide the State Department with armored Cybertrucks — which many have found riddled with flaws — Carter is nowhere to be found. He is yet to issue personal or official statements on Musk receiving such a massive government contract just weeks into the second Trump administration.
“It’s the height of hypocrisy to watch Carter get on his soapbox about ‘waste, fraud, and abuse’ when what he’s really talking about is cutting your Social Security benefits, but he’s nowhere to be found when $400 million of government largesse finds its way into Elon’s pockets,” said DPG spokesperson Alex Yerkey. “The silence from Elon Musk’s number one Congressional fanboy is deafening — and frankly pathetic.”
