If variety is the spice of life, then you can look forward to a very spicy month ahead. The list of things to do in and around downtown Trenton this March is extensive and varied, with live performances and art exhibitions, educational events and kid-friendly activities, and so much more.

Clean Slate: A World Premiere Musical

PRESENTED BY: Passage Theatre and Rider University

LOCATION: The Mill Hill Playhouse

 Clean Slate” is a new musical that tells the story of a group of disaffected high school students who are sent to a rehabilitation camp that may, or may not, also be haunted by the souls of former campers who have gone missing. A story of radical empathy, the piece explores the need to remember who we used to be in order to move forward.

First Fridays Downtown Trenton: Roots & Culture

PRESENTED BY: African American Cultural Collaborative and Partners

LOCATION: Downtown Trenton

First Fridays are coming back stronger than ever this year! The African American Cultural Collaborative of Mercer County has announced the dates for the 2023 First Friday events, in partnership with Trenton Downtown Association, 1911 Smokehouse BBQ and the City of Trenton.

Mark your calendars now for the following Fridays: May 5, June 2, July 7, August 4, September 1 and October 6. We are also looking for vendors and performers.

The Wiz

PRESENTED BY: Trenton Central High School

LOCATION: TCHS Auditorium, 400 Chambers St., Trenton

Join Trenton Central High School for their 2023 performance of “The Wiz.” Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. The show will run for 2 hours and 15 minutes with a 15-minute intermission.

Trace Your African Roots: Info Session

PRESENTED BY: Association for the Study of African American Life and History and the Trent House Association

LOCATION: 15 Market Street, Trenton

Join the Greater Trenton branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) and the Trent House Association for an information session on how DNA analysis can identify a person's African lineage. This is the final session.

NJ Historical Commission Awards Ceremony

PRESENTED BY: NJ Historical Commission

LOCATION: Thomas Edison State University, Kelsey Complex

Join the Historical Commission as we remember Richard Waldron and celebrate the 2022 award winners. Every year the Commission acknowledges the individuals and organizations that make significant contributions to the preservation of New Jersey’s history. The event is free, but registration is required.

Red Carpet Night

A fun night of food, comedy, dancing, and awards. Local celebrities will be performing scenes from past Oscar-winning films and competing for that all-elusive “Golden Statue.”

Whispers of Freedom Just Between Us: A Trent House Story

PRESENTED BY: The Trent House

LOCATION: 15 Market Street, Trenton

Joan and Nanny were two of the people of African descent enslaved by William Trent. We believe that they both worked in the Trent home —Joan as cook and Nanny as caregiver for the Trents' young son William and maid to Mary Coddington Trent.

The two videos contrast the possible futures faced by these three women and the options they had to shape the future for themselves.

Virtual Author Talk: Women of the Seas and the Stars

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the library historian and storyteller Carol Simon Levin will discuss notable women who made careers and discoveries below the waves and above the clouds. Carol portrays Mercury 13 “almost astronaut” Jerrie Cobb to tell the stories of overlooked women who sought to explore realms beyond the surface of Earth.
