From: New Jersey Governor Phil MurphyMurphy Administration Readies for America’s 250th Anniversary with Battle of Princeton Re-Enactment on January 5 and Installation of Enhanced Interpretive Displays
As part of preparations for America’s 250th anniversary in 2026, Princeton Battlefield State Park will host its annual re-enactment of the Battle of Princeton on Sunday, January 5, allowing attendees to learn about one of the fiercest battles of the American Revolution and interact with 10 newly installed interpretive displays throughout the park, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette announced.
Spectators will experience a guided narration of the battle as British and American re-enactors fire muskets and cannons on the same land where the actual battle took place on January 3, 1777. Following the battle, the interior of the historic Thomas Clarke House will be open for tours. Visitors will also be guided by 10 new interpretive displays at various locations on the battlefield.
“The Battle of Princeton is a powerful milestone that highlights New Jersey’s pivotal role in our nation’s history,” said Governor Murphy. “Over the next two years, we’re excited to showcase how New Jersey continues to be a beacon of innovation, carrying forward the revolutionary spirit ignited 250 years ago. I’m proud to kick off this celebration right here in the Garden State.”
“We are thrilled to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary with the re-enactment of the Battle of Princeton,” said Lieutenant Governor Way who oversees the New Jersey Historical Commission in her role as Secretary of State. “New Jersey played a pivotal role in our nation’s founding story. I’m delighted to see efforts underway to highlight our state’s rich history and significant contributions to the American Revolution.”
“The Murphy Administration is fully committed to preparing for the nation’s 250th anniversary as efforts to tell the Garden State’s part of the story gear up,” said Commissioner LaTourette. “Investments have been made statewide, and work is ongoing to improve historic sites and enhance our ability to educate the public by holding events that highlight the significance of New Jersey’s part in shaping the country’s history.”
Statement from Governor Murphy on the Passing of Former President Jimmy Carter
"President Jimmy Carter was a man whose tremendous faith was equaled by his sense of moral courage and purpose. He saw a nation scarred by Watergate and sought to heal its wounds and restore its faith. He saw the promise for peace in the Middle East and took the first steps toward that elusive goal, including personally brokering a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt. He saw a world imperiled by the threat of nuclear war and endeavored to protect it.
"In addition to his accomplishments in public office, it is what President Carter did when he did not have an official title that has solidified his place among our nation’s greatest citizens. He served in the United States Navy with distinction. And he committed his life after the White House to charitable endeavors large and small to better our world – to promote peace, to fight disease, and to house the homeless, among so much else.
"We pray that, in rest, President Carter will be reunited with his beloved wife Rosalynn. And we are sending our prayers, as well, to their children Jack, James II, Donnel, and Amy, along with their families, and all who had the pleasure of knowing President Carter through the years.
"In his youth, few probably ever fathomed the lasting imprint this son of Plains, Georgia would leave on the world. He proved that good people, wanting nothing more than to do good, can excel in politics and life. And, as he leaves us, we are forever grateful."
Statement from Acting Governor Way on the Passing of Former President Jimmy Carter
“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, a man of unparalleled moral courage, faith, and humanity.”
“While his presidency left an undeniable mark, it was his life after the White House that cemented his place among our nation’s greatest citizens. Whether building homes for the homeless, fighting disease, or advancing human rights, President Carter exemplified the belief that public service is a lifelong calling.”
“His life taught us what it means to lead with compassion and purpose. I am sending my prayers to his children Jack, James II, Donnel, and Amy, along with their families, and all who had the pleasure of knowing President Carter.”
