We invite all art lovers, collectors, and community members to join us in celebrating these fresh artistic voices at Art Walk, the Awards Reception, and during the exhibition’s full run from June 6th through June 29th.

This series juxtaposes the opulence enjoyed by tourists or North American settlers with the stark living conditions of the majority of native Boricuas.
The works in this exhibition represent a broad spectrum of artistic expression and innovation, highlighting the rich cultural diversity and unique perspectives of our community. For example, finalist Jo Cosme (above right) was displaced from Borikén, Puerto Rico to Seattle a year after Hurricane María’s landfall and was struck by the lack of awareness among North Americans regarding their nation's exploitative and ongoing colonial relationship with her island. Cosme uses the lenticular printing method—you have to walk from side to side to see both images—to show what visitors expect to see in the Caribbean vs. what native Boricuas see.

This Year’s Juror: Hanako O’Leary
A craft-based sculptor and installation artist, O’Leary’s major artistic accomplishments include solo shows in galleries such as King Street Station, Frye Art Museum, and Gallery 4Culture, and awards including the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture City Artist Grant, Bernie Funk Fellowship, Robert B. McMillen Grant, and Artist Trust Fellowship.
“Art is about work ethic as much as it is about talent and vision. Every artist featured… showed these three factors in their work,” says O’Leary. “With these artists, I see the years of continued effort to have their work seen, and the passion they have for where they come from and the people and places they represent.”
O’Leary was assisted by a panel including the Gallery 110’s Exhibitions Head, George Brandt, and 2022 Emerging Artist Scholarship Winner Nahom Ghirmay.
