The Museum at Eldridge Street will be open on July 4th!

Come by and see for yourself the restored Eldridge Street Synagogue, an architectural marvel and a symbol of immigrant aspirations realized. The building is the first grand synagogue purpose-built by Eastern European Jewish immigrants in the United States, and was nearly lost to neglect before the Museum’s 20-year, $20 million restoration project returned the space to glory and public use.

Public tours guided by our docents are available Sunday – Friday at 11AM and 2PM, with additional tours on Sunday and Friday at 1PM and 3PM, and on Monday at 1PM. Visitors may also tour the Museum on their own through a self-guide, available for download at the Museum.

Iconic Jewish Woodcuts Revised for the Twenty-First Century

This exhibition featuring works by artist Mark Podwal offers inventive interpretations of woodcuts from the 16th-century Sefer Minhagim (Book of Customs), and combines lighthearted, imaginative whimsy with insightful commentary on Jewish customs and history. He not only injects a sense of playfulness into religious objects and practices, but also invites deeper contemplation and appreciation of their significance.
