A Holocaust Memoir of Love & Resilience with Ettie Zilber
With the Nazi occupation of Kovno (Lithuania), her life changed forever. Zlata Santocki Sidrer was Jewish, but she survived the horrors of the Holocaust. Gone were her normal life and her teenage dream of becoming a doctor. Instead, she witnessed untold deprivations, massacres, imprisonment, hunger, and slave labor before being transported to the Stutthof Concentration Camp. Her story of the death march is a testament to her fighting spirit and the limits of human endurance. Lovingly compiled from recorded interviews and researched by her eldest daughter, Ettie, this is an account of a remarkably resilient woman who raised herself out of the ashes after unimaginable hardship and sorrow.

April Book Club - "All the Broken Places," by John Boyne
This new novel tells a compelling story and asks some provocative questions: Is it ever too late to confront the past and make peace with it? Is it possible to shine a light on some of the darkest aspects of human nature and come to terms with them? This is a powerful story about secrets and atonement after Auschwitz, a tale of guilt and complicity but also about finding solace after a lifelong struggle to embrace one’s humanity and learn how to hold fast to it.
Please join us for a lively discussion led by Dr. Linda Burghardt, Scholar-in-Residence.
