Based on Hans Christian Andersen's beloved fable of The Ugly Duckling, Honk! Improv Jam | March 17

Mosesian Arts' Improv Jam is a community-wide jam open to improvisors of all skill sets (18+). Each jam will feature a short set by a local independent team followed by a jam session hosted by veteran improvisors.

Fork & Shoe Theatre Co-op presents A Pain in the Molasses | March 22-23

In 1919, a tidal wave of of molasses tsunami-ed through Boston's North End. Full of puppets, music, and historical accuracy, this production is a cautionary tale for all ages about corporate greed and a testament to the power of the people. Move & Inspire presents Move to Change the Future | March 23

This youth dance troupe performance is a collection of pieces made before, throughout, and after the pandemic. The children are our future facilitators, and their energy will inspire you and lead us to make a peaceful earth in the future. This performance is in English and Japanese. Get tickets

Upstage Lunch Cancer presents Frank & Tony – Songs of Sinatra and Bennett | March 26

Join renowned cabaret and jazz recording artists The Follen Angels to celebrate the lives and music of two of the greats. The evening will be emceed by WBZ radio's Jordan Rich, with guest speaker MGH's Chi-Fu Jeffrey Yang, MD. Proceeds from this joyful evening will benefit lung cancer research. Get tickets

Mosesian Arts Live presents SheGrooves: Using Our Voices for Positive Change | March 27

Equal parts performance and presentation by an all-female ensemble comprised of Berklee College of Music faculty and students, this show will explore through music how women historically have used their voices for positive change within the world. Get tickets

PM Theater presents A Star Without a Name | March 28-29

A nationwide tour of an Off-Broadway production, this melodramatic tragicomedy, adapted and translated into English by Ilya Eckstein from Mihail Sebastian's Steaua f?r? nume, premiered in New York City at the famed Theatre at St. Clement's in November 2023, and now travels to Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Palo Alto. Get tickets

ARTS EDUCATION

Spring Classes | Registration Open

Registration continues for a spring term of arts education programs, with over thirty offerings in performing and visual arts classes for children, teens, and adults! Visual arts classes include painting, drawing, printmaking, and mixed media for adults, and fiber arts, comics, and introductory classes for young artists. Classes in the performing arts include acting, voice, improv, and technical theater.

Summer Stages & Studios | Registration Open

Summer arts ed programming at Mosesian Arts is also open and filling fast! We foster an engaging, welcoming, and creative community where students entering grades 1-12 can explore new art forms, focus on specific interests, learn from professional teaching artists, and make connections with other participants in a variety of weekly programs.

EXHIBITIONS

Feast: Food Represented in the Visual Arts | Through March 8 only

In this fun and flavorful exhibition, artists portray a variety of foods, from fruits and vegetables to pastries and cake, and anything in between. This exhibition closes this Friday. (Please note that our galleries will also be closed this Saturday, March 9.) Feast has been deliciously sponsored by Olespaña, located at 645 Mount Auburn St. in Watertown.

Feminist Art: Contemporary Perspectives | March 20-May 3, Opening Reception April 4

There is a present-day resurgence in feminist art, as well as an interest in the history of feminist art and its connection to current intersectional feminist political and art activism. Themes of the body, particularly the bodies of women and trans individuals, and how it is viewed in today’s society are open to reexamination in this timely exhibition.

CALL FOR ART: Entwined: Visual and Textual Narratives | Deadline April 1

There are strong connections between literature and visual arts. Words paint pictures and artists interpret and are influenced by stories. Entwined will feature artwork inspired by literature, the written word, folk tales, and tales of all kinds—from fairy tales to myths to narratives that are autobiographical or speak of the human condition.
