Over the past three months, we've been committed to providing you with all of the resources you might need to support you throughout our Fall Grants application process. From our GrantsLab sessions to our Tips and Tricks series, we've strived to take away much of the strife that artists, especially newer artists, may feel around the whole granting process.

TIP 10: Don't Panic: Giving yourself a break

Grant applications are due in to Staten Island Arts by 11:59 PM EST on Wednesday January 31st, 2023. The clock is ticking. Your budget sheet is...somewhere? You need to compile your work sample. Your draft needs redrafting...

If you're feeling overwhelmed, trust that you are not alone and that SIA is here to support your process.

We offer 1:1 grant support Monday through Friday from 3pm to 7pm. All you have to do is email Gena at [email protected] to set up an appointment. It can be really helpful to talk things through with someone, listen closely, take notes, and wrap your mind around the details of your project.

Tip 11: Send it Off: Finalizing your application

Now's a great time to finalize your proposal and send it in. Take the time you need to put the final touches on things, don't overthink it. You got this...and even if you feel like you don't, know that SIA staff is available to review your application to make sure you have submitted everything you need. Once your application is in - congratulate yourself on your hard work!

Tip 12: To the Archives: Process documentation
Our final bit of advice for this round may be applied after you apply. A lifelong strategy that'll come in handy for all your future projects and proposals: Documentation and Archiving.

If you receive funding, it's really important to document your process/project. Take photos, video, keep a journal! These items will allow you to visually share about your work and could help you in the future - whether that's to build your portfolio or to simply have a record of your work and accomplishments. 

While Staten Island Arts is not able to fund every application we receive, you are welcome to reapply in the next cycle. You can help yourself with future submissions by properly archiving your application and supporting materials for reference. 

The SIA grants portal will save your documentation, but we also recommend saving them off our server. If you are someone who uses a cloud service, ALSO have an external hard drive, flash drive, flash drive USB stick, etc. with your work on it. Double-upping your critical documents is always a good idea.

We wish you the best of luck as you submit your application by January 31st! After all submission are in, our panel will meet throughout February-April.

Applicants will be notified by e-mail of all funding decisions at the conclusion of each panel's deliberations. The last round of notification letters will go out before the end of April.
