From: State Library of IowaILA Planning Day: Next Week In Cherokee!
For Northwest Iowa library staff and trustees, this is welcome news: the Iowa Library Association is holding its annual Planning Day in Cherokee. It's next week Tuesday November 14 at the Cherokee Yacht Club beginning at 9:00AM.
Please note that you do not need to be an ILA member to attend. ILA Planning Day offers a time to learn more about ILA's mission and its goals for 2024. Specifically, having this annual Planning Day held in Cherokee is significant because it sets up an important opportunity for library staff and trustees in western Iowa to become more involved in ILA's work
Registration is required and linked at the button below. The day runs from 9:00AM-3:45PM, ILA President Sam Helmick shares this look the agenda:
- Identify membership needs and leadership gaps to resolve in the coming year. If you are already serving, or interested in adding your voice to the methods and impact of ILA, please attend this gathering. Your voice and leadership matter!
- Commit to an actionable local advocacy goal leading to ILA Lobby Day (March 5th) During the 2022/2023 session, Iowa experienced the 2nd most library-adverse bills in the nation. When we build local relationships, we remind representatives and stakeholders of the power, positivity, and pride that libraries instill in all Iowans. You can review ahead of time the 2024 ILA Legislative Priorities
- Build rapport with our new association service provider, Capture Management Services. Come meet the Capture Management Services team for the first time (or again) to learn about the infrastructure and strategies that will enable ILA to thrive for many years to come.
Sam Helmick writes: "We will brainstorm about communication, professional development, our legislative priorities, advocacy efforts, and how we all play a role in ILA’s impact. Planning Day is a great opportunity to encourage potential members to learn about ILA, to invite library trustees to discover more, and to meet members of ILA's Executive Board, including our newest board members (to be announced soon)
