Collection Cultivation: Maintain Your Library Collection through Weeding
Tuesdays in August, 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
You’ve asked for it, and we’re answering! One of the most-often requested training topics on CE Evaluations is weeding: the systematic renewal of collections by getting rid of materials no longer needed in the library. Collection Cultivation is a four-part series from the State Library of Iowa designed to give public librarians an overview of how to maintain their library collections through weeding. We’ll cover some basics, dig deeper into cleaning adult and YS collections, and hear best practices from library practitioners.
Part 1 (August 1): Weeding Basics
Part 2 (August 15): Data-Driven Weeding
Part 3 (August 22): Weeding the Youth Collection
Part 4 (August 29): Practitioner Panel
If you're eyeing a weeding project (or two!) this series is for you. Libraries of all sizes struggle with this area of collection maintenance, and there's sure to be something for everyone. Attend one or all of the sessions -- each will be recorded.
