Skokie Idol is back, with new rules and a new format..

The contest is open to everyone, ages 10 - 100, regardless of where you live. Contestants will be assigned to divisions based on age groups. Each division will have its own winner.

Unlike other contests, there are no weekly eliminations.  Players will receive a minimum of six song challenges. One challenge will be recorded and submitted online. The remaining challenges will be performed live at Skokie Theatre

Your first song can be any style of music you like. It will not be scored and is your introduction to the contest. Record it, and send it to us right away along with your registration form to enter.

You can sing to a track. You can sing a cappella. You can have someone accompany you. But you must be the only singer. (Occasionally, a pre-recorded song track contains background singers. That's ok as long as you sing the lead).

Many contestants enjoy the challenge of playing for themselves. Others prefer to sing to a track. It's all up to you.

Weekly live challenges begin on Saturday, January 20, and you will be asked to sing a song in the musical category that we've chosen for the week. Past categories have included Broadway, Country & Western, Beatles, Big Band, 60’s, etc. but there will be some new categories this year.

You will receive votes from the public, plus votes from our judges along with their immediate feedback to apply to your next challenge. Our panel of judges is comprised of vocalists, musicians, and casting directors from all over Chicago, so this is your chance to receive free coaching from industry professionals.

Your friends and family will have to attend in person at Skokie Theatre to vote for you. But you also have the chance to earn extra votes from the rest of the audience.

At the end of the weekly challenges, we will add up the weekly scores. We will drop your lowest week's score to compute the rankings, so there's no worry if you had to miss a song, or had difficulty with one of the song categories. The contestants who rank in the top half will be invited back to perform live in the semi-finals on Satrday, March 2 at 1 pm.

The top scoring semi-finalists will be invited back to sing live in our finals on Saturday, March 23 at 7 pm. The top scoring finalist in each division will win the Skokie Idol title.

GRAND PRIZE: The Skokie Idol winners from each division receive $500 and will be featured live in a concert performance in the summer of 2024.
