We are kicking off our 3rd Annual Sci-Phi Film Festival with the space spoof to end all space spoofs…until the sequel Spaceballs 2: The Quest for More Money. In a distant galaxy, a renegade space pilot (Bill Pullman) and his trusty half-dog, half-man sidekick (John Candy) must save a princess (Daphne Zuniga) from the evil clutches of the Spaceballs, led by President Skroob (Mel Brooks) and the dastardly Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis). This Mel Brooks cult space comedy, is endlessly quotable and parodies films from Star Wars (“May the Schwartz be with you”) to 2001: A Space Odyssey to Alien.

This late ‘90s blend of deep space sci-fi meets haunted horror meets Lovecraftian nightmare fuel has become a true cult classic in the years since its release. Set in the year 2047, the starship “Event Horizon” has been missing for several years. After its mysterious reappearance, a rescue crew is sent to retrieve it, unaware that the spacecraft has brought something back with it. EVENT HORIZON has been one of the most requested films for our Sci-Phi Film Festival, and we’re finally delivering it! Starring Laurence Fishburne, Joely Richardson, Kathleen Quinlan, and Sam Neill in a memorably devilish performance. Rated R.

Chock full of giant monster fights, handcrafted special effects from Eiji Tsuburaya, and a fun campy performance from Nick Adams, this sixth film in the iconic Toho franchise is a must see on the big screen. We’ll be showing this monster classic dubbed in English so the littlest monster fans in your life can get in on the fun! 

12:25 PM : The Thing From Another World

Researchers at an Arctic research station discover a block of ice that harbors an alien entity. When the body is unintentionally thawed, the scientists find themselves at the mercy of this malevolent being. Drawing inspiration from the 1938 short story 'Who Goes There?', THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD played a pivotal role in launching the '50s sci-fi wave of alien terror on the big screen! This film is particularly significant as it marks Howard Hawks' sole venture into the science fiction genre and inspired one of the most acclaimed remakes in film history, The Thing (1982).

PAPRIKA is a surreal investigation into the realm of dreams and the complexities of the human psyche, showcasing stunning animated visuals and a narrative that significantly inspired Christopher Nolan’s Inception. In anticipation of the much-awaited remake to be released later this year, we present this underrated sci-fi gem based on a novel by Stephen King (written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman). THE RUNNING MAN is set in a dystopian America, where the populace endures food scarcity and a repressive regime. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as a convict forced to participate in a TV game show that pits prisoners against eccentric adversaries in a bid for their freedom. This action romp is packed with memorable one-liners and bloody mayhem! Rated R.

12:00 PM : Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

We invite you to join us at 12 pm for a special screening of an episode from the Original Series, which will be followed by a brief intermission; at 1 pm, we will present STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK. Admission to the film includes access to the episode screening. In the aftermath of Wrath of Khan, the crew of the USS Enterprise faces significant losses. Following Spock’s selfless sacrifice, the Enterprise is slated for decommissioning, and Dr. McCoy is suffering from a mysterious ailment. His peculiar behavior is attributed to the presence of Spock’s spirit within him. In a bold move, Admiral Kirk and his crew decide to defy orders to heal McCoy and attempt to bring back their fallen comrade Spock, which leads to a confrontation with the Klingons.
