Sports and Recreation
April 6, 2023
From: Saratoga Springs Recreation DepartmentThe Saratoga Springs Recreation Department, Department of Public Works, and ON DECK Saratoga are pleased to announce that construction of the new Saratoga Skatepark at the East Side Recreation facility will begin April 10, 2023. This project has been in development for more than 10 years, and will yield a fully concrete, modern skatepark for the region’s wheeled sports enthusiasts.
Skateboarding and other wheeled sports continue to grow in popularity, especially since skateboarding became an official event in the 2020 Olympics. The need for professional, modern skateparks has never been greater, and Saratoga is proud to commit to the needs of the local skating community.
Saratoga’s skatepark was built in 1989 and is the oldest skatepark in the state. Originally constructed of wood, it has undergone a series of changes and upgrades over the years, and the metal ramps and concrete bowl that are currently there have been in place for about 20 years. The new skatepark design features obstacles for all ability levels and will be made of concrete, providing a smooth, quiet and fast riding surface. The skatepark will be closed for the rest of the spring and summer while construction is underway, with plans for the new park to be ready by early fall.
