Visitors to the Massillon Museum and those celebrating Massillon’s holiday kickoff on Saturday, November 19, can hear a free violin performance by Rachel Barton Pine in the second-floor galleries.

She will play from 6:30 to 6:50 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. During the break, guests will be welcome to talk with the musician.

The pop-up performance will promote the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s concert on November 20 and celebrate the collaboration of the Orchestra, the Massillon Museum, and the Canton Museum of Art for the performance of Pictures at an Exhibition at Zimmerman Symphony Center, 2331 17th Street NW in Canton.

Massillon’s holiday music and tree lighting celebration-centered at Duncan Plaza next to the Museum-will immediately follow the Massillon Holiday Parade, which steps off at 5:00 p.m. The Museum galleries will remain open throughout the celebration and free hands-on activities will be offered in Gessner Hall.  

That evening, guests will be able to see “Carry On”: A Century of Swing; the Paul Brown/Massillon Tiger Football History Timeline; Barrie Kaufman: A Fragile Environment; INTO LIGHT Project Ohio: The Conversation Continues; Collection Spotlight: Faces of Massillon Business; the American Indian, Local History, and Albert E. Hise Fine and Decorative Arts galleries; the Immel Circus; and Innovators of Massillon.

Pine performs with the world’s leading orchestras including the Philadelphia Orchestra; the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; Camerata Salzburg; and the Chicago, Vienna and Detroit Symphony Orchestras. She has worked with renowned conductors, including Teddy Abrams, Marin Alsop, Semyon Bychkov, Neeme Järvi, Erich Leinsdorf, Sir Neville Marriner, Nicholas McGegan, Zubin Mehta, Tito Muñoz, and John Nelson, and has collaborated with artists such as Daniel Barenboim, Christoph Eschenbach, and William Warfield.
 
Pine frequently performs music by contemporary composers, including major works written for her by Billy Childs, Mohammed Fairouz, Marcus Goddard, Earl Maneein, Shawn E. Okpebholo, Daniel Bernard Roumain, José Serebrier, and Augusta Read Thomas. She has premiered concertos written for her by Fairouz, Goddard, and Maneein.
