Alejandro García Contreras:
¿Quien no ha intentado convertir una piedra en un recuerdo?
September 6–December 15, 2024
¿Quien no ha intentado convertir una piedra en un recuerdo?, or Who hasn't tried to turn a stone into a memory?, the first institutional solo exhibition by artist Alejandro García Contreras, explores the dichotomy between the ephemerality of human beings and the material objects that they leave behind.
Contreras asks, What defines us as individuals? Is it the things created and accumulated in life, or is it the memories of the soul? Do we keep anything with us in our transition to death? The result is is a meditative assemblage of concrete, ceramic, and ornamental sculptures and structures—many of which were cast on site during Contreras’ Summer 2024 residency at Pioneer Works.?
?
Contreras will guide visitors through the exhibition as part of our Gallery Dialogues series during our September Second Sundays program on September 6th.
EXHIBITION
Le'Andra LeSeur: Monument Eternal
September 6–December 15, 2024
"Half an hour outside of Atlanta lies the most popular attraction in the state of Georgia: Stone Mountain Park’s massive relief carving of Confederate leaders Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson. Artist and poet Le’Andra LeSeur, who grew up visiting the park, searches for a more intentional form of interaction with the violent site, activating it rather than dissociating from it in hopes of finding new forms of reconciliation and healing." —Hyperallegic
Borrowing it's title from Alice Coltrane's 1977 autobiography, Monument Eternal captures a journey of perseverance and self-discovery set against the backdrop of Georgia's Stone Mountain—the world's largest exposed granite outcrop made monument to the Confederacy. Alongside paintings, drawings, and sculptural works completed during Le’Andra LeSeur's 2023 residency at Pioneer Works, the artist's titular film transforms violence into transcendences. Le'Andra LeSeur: Monument Eternal is co-commissioned with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
PROGRAM
Narcissister: Voyage Into Infinity
Saturday–Sunday, September 14–15, 7PM
This month, we present the world premiere of Narcissister's Voyage Into Infinity, a raw and topsy-turvy performance staged on a roving kinetic installation across our Main Hall. Featuring a live score performed by musician Holland Andrews, the performance features Narcissister alongside a cast of live performers who trigger, participate in, and bear witness to an assortment of physical feats, lo-fi magic tricks and indoor pyrotechnics. This project marks Narcissister’s first large-scale performance commission since 2012.
Tickets are now fully sold out. Please email [email protected] for more information about ticketing and our waitlist. A recording of this performance will be made available online later this fall.

2025 Open Call for Visual Arts and Music Residents
September 3–September 30, 2024
After a brief break for construction, we are back to accepting applications for our 2025 Visual Arts and Music Residencies! The Technology Residency, however, has now shifted to an invite-only process as we shift and evolve.
During the selection phase, a jury comprising resident alumni and experts in the field will be searching for candidates who demonstrate excellence in their work, which goes beyond the existing norms of their field. We are particularly interested in applicants who can effectively utilize our unique facilities and collaborative environment, as well as those with an interdisciplinary practice.
Thanks in advance to Le'Andrea LeSeur (Visual Arts '23) and Graham Wilson (Swivel Gallery) for jurying the Visual Arts applications and to Gelsey Bell (Music '23) and Lester St. Louis (Music '23) for jurying the Music applications.
