12pm: Bay Area Concert Band - Mingus Park, Coos Bay
A community band has been part of the Coos Bay area since the days of Louis Simpson. The Bay Area Concert Band has opened every Oregon Coast Music Festival since the festival began in 1978!. The Band is a recognized non-profit organization. The group of ~40 distinguished musicians from in and around the bay area welcomes student musicians of proven ability to join them. Conductor Stephen Simpkins will lead the band in performance of an array of typical band music including light classical, medleys from composers of Broadway and famed movie hits, Latin music, and marches.

2pm: Voices of the Community - Hales Center for the Performing Arts, SWOCC
Musicians from our community provide an eclectic selection of musical genres and instruments. Featured are performances by Dace Sultanov, Cello; Second Wind, a quartet of male voices; and the Swingin' in the Rain big band. Tickets $15, and students are free.

Meet the members of the Tri-Cities Steel Band Association's two Marimba Bands, their director and chaperones. Join them to explore the instruments and the musical arrangements. Learn about their group's history.

12pm: Bahuru and Baduku Marimba Bands Dance in the Park - Shore Acres State Park Gardens
The Bahuru and Baduku Bands are Zimbabwean marimba bands, comprised of middle and high school students and are part of the Tri-Cities Steel Band Association, of Richland, Washington. The association promotes world music through education and music performance, and the bands are directed by Walt Hampton.

Programming Changes for 2024 Festival Orchestra
Maestro James Paul will program and conduct the opening concert (Orchestra Concert I) on Tuesday, July 23. This will be a grand performance and a celebratory finale for our Music Director and Conductor of 31 years who is retiring this year. Maestro has chosen the following compositions: Sullivan: Overture to "The Yeomen of the Guard"; Vaughan Williams: The Lark Ascending with Steven Moeckel soloist; and Rachmaninoff: Symphony No.2.
We plan a gala reception for Maestro Paul at Marshfield following the concert.
