Douglas E. Hempstead, LMMM Chairman of the Board of Trustees said, “We are very excited to have Margaret and David join our Board of Trustees and apply their outstanding abilities to the management and leadership of the Museum. I am sure they will both play a pivotal role in growing and enhancing our treasured institution.”
Margaret W. Walker is Executive Vice President, Legal Affairs and Corporate Communications at HMTX Industries, a global LVT flooring manufacturer headquartered in Norwalk, CT, where she applies her comprehensive experience across general corporate matters, intellectual property, and license and supply arrangements.
Prior to joining HMTX, Ms. Walker spent her career at Xerox Corporation where she served in several complex roles including Corporate Finance & Ventures Group Attorney; Trademark & Copyright Counsel; Senior Trademark & Copyright Counsel; Associate General Intellectual Property Counsel & Chief Trademark Counsel.
Ms. Walker has served on the board of New Beginnings Family Academy, Inc. and LifeBridge Community Services, and is the founding member of Rochester’s Black Bar Association. A Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School, Margaret has garnered numerous awards and honors including: Technology & Software Team of the Year Award Recipient, Word Trademark Review Industry Awards, 2012; In-House Counsel of the Year Nominee, World Trademark Review Industry Awards, 2012; Founders Award Recipient, Rochester Black Bar Association, 2004; and Volunteer of the Year Award Recipient, Pro-Bono Partnership, 2000.
Born in Houston, Texas, David Westmoreland graduated from Baylor University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He spent 23 years in information technology working for corporations, including Vice President, Airport Technology of American Airlines and Chief Information Officer of Arrow Electronics. He completed his Master of Landscape Architecture at Cornell University in 2006 and became a registered landscape architect. He is co-owner of Tuliptree Site Design, Inc. in Norwalk.
David currently serves the community in Norwalk in a number of roles, including Chairman of the Second Taxing District Commission (SNEW), Redevelopment Agency Commissioner, Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative Board of Directors, Norwalk Historical Society Board of Directors (and past-president), and is on the CT Humanities’ Board of Directors. In the past, David was chairman of the City of Norwalk’s Historical Commission and oversaw the relocation and development of the new Historical Society Museum, and the renovations of the buildings and park at Mill Hill, four city owned cemeteries, along with the historic buildings at Mathews Park, including the Lockwood Mathews Mansion.
He also served as chair of the mayor’s community task force to redesign Ryan Park. He is a member of St. Paul’s-on-the Green, where he has served in a variety of roles. He is an avid supporter of the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and anything to do with the history of Connecticut. David is passionate about preserving, protecting, and educating the public about Norwalk’s and Connecticut’s rich history through education programs, exhibits, and events, with a special focus on the diversity of people and cultures who have made our community what it is today.
