Crisis of Image features artists who resist the call for image erasure and instead develop new strategies for the production of visuality. Rather than seeking to escape the image or even to create new images, they explore the methods, access, and means of visual creation.
Throughout history, dominant cultural structures have imposed image censorship and constraints. Our saturated visual culture has produced new calls for image suppression – but why? One answer might be that the recent abundance of image making technologies has made visual production more accessible.
In the 1970s and 80s, images were claimed and revitalized by artists whose right to produce them had been historically denied – resulting in the emergence of new feminist, BIPoC, and queer representational strategies. The call to censor or constrain the image is often produced by a scarcity anxiety that seeks to maintain a status quo. Approaches that address this legacy of dominant heteropatriarchal aesthetics are one new direction for artists seeking equity in this saturated visual world.
Rebecca Rivas Rogers: Grey View

Grey View is MoCA Arlington resident artist Rebecca Rivas Rogers‘ exuberant love letter to the color gray, a record of the abstractions, colors and textures found in America’s constructed spaces and a snapshot of the artist’s creative process. Consisting of photographs, collage and a sprawling site-specific installation, Grey View is an outgrowth of Rivas-Rogers’ ongoing visual investigations into the places that you see on your way to somewhere else.
Initially a landscape painter, Rebecca Rivas Rogers' work is indebted to the history of painting and her training in graphic design. As a Northern Irish woman living in the United States, Rivas Rogers brings an outsider’s perspective to the provisional spaces that dominate the contemporary American landscape: through Rivas Rogers’ eyes, parking lots, construction zones, chain link fencing and oil stains all become lessons in aesthetics and meditations on the color gray. Rivas Rogers’ observations of these and other American “non-spaces” are recorded in a series of small format photographs on the wall opposite her site-specific installation, showcasing her focus on pattern, texture, abstraction and color.
Rebecca Rivas Rogers is an artist, designer and educator originally from Northern Ireland. She holds an MFA in Studio Art from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), and a BA in Design from Glasgow School of Art. After working in graphic design throughout Britain and the United States Rivas-Rogers became an art educator while living in Colombia, South America. Currently an adjunct professor at MICA and American University, she has been a resident artist at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Arlington since 2020.
Adam Henry: Make Your Mark

Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington is proud to present Make Your Mark, a large-scale abstract sculpture designed and built by Arlington-based artist Adam Henry for the Museum’s lawn. Bright and eye-catching, the work celebrates the Museum’s recent rebranding and brings energy and life to the lawn space in front of MoCA Arlington’s building.
The angular design of the artwork compliments the angles of the historic building’s gabled roof while the bright orange color of the work contrasts with the building’s traditional façade. Evoking crystals emerging from the ground, the work’s bright color stands out amongst the greens, browns, and greys of the surrounding landscape, drawing attention to the Museum and its dedication to connecting the community with contemporary art and artists.
Adam Henry is a portrait artist, muralist, sculptor, and fabricator who views art as an accessible form of communication and way to connect with others. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Adam attended the Pratt Institute of Art and has continued his art practice over the last 25 years. His appreciation of all art forms has enabled him to develop a varied practice ranging from theater staging to album covers to portraits. Henry lives and works in Arlington, VA.
The Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington’s summer camps are fun experiences for ages 5-18! Campers go on artistic journeys and explore the visual arts through exciting projects in 2D and 3D media while learning about new and different artistic techniques and contemporary artists working around the world today.

Camps are offered at either MoCA Arlington or Marymount University's main campus. Complimentary before care and after care is provided for camps held at MoCA Arlington.

Yoga in the Galleries
Yoga in the Galleries is a 60-minute yoga session on Saturday mornings at 10am in the Tiffany Gallery where you will move your body towards a presence with your inner creative and open yourself to what inspires. After a 50-minute flowing session, you will be guided to doodle, draw, and write — enabling your creative mind to guide your hand in self-expression!
Participants should bring their own mat, water bottle, and notebook with writing utensil. This program is by donation each session and is limited to 30 participants. Register via EventBrite at the link below.
