Artist Talk with Zhenya Parish @ the Innovation Studio
Wednesday / September 11 / 6pm
525 14th St S, Arlington, VA 22202
Free. No Registration Required.
Join us for a conversation with current Innovation Studio Artist in Residence, Zhenya Parish, and MoCA Arlington Curator and Resident Artist/Collector Liaison, Amanda Jirón-Murphy. Hear more about the development, process, and practice of Parish’s work. View the work in advance and plan for the talk to begin at 6:15pm.
About the Artist
Zhenya Parish developed her love, desire and persistence for art in Russia, where she was born. Starting as a teenager, she attended art school in Voronezh and was trained in classical Post-Soviet art education. The unfortunate death of her mother led her to the United States, and Kansas State University, where she pursued a Fine Arts, Oil Painting degree.
Parish’s paintings began as raw and dark with windows of light, simplified in shapes and colors to reflect her childhood. In moving to DC, Parish began a new life, eventually, becoming a mother. There, she also began expanding her toolbox, challenging canvases and colors to surpass their utilitarian limitations. She began to explore live and interactive art creations, upon which, “Canvas Vibrations” was born. In recent years, Parish has been working out of a new studio space and leveraging that into new and refined explorations.

She graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in English. Laura worked at New Hope Housing and Shelter House, where she was a case manager and then program director for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. She returned to school and obtained a Masters in Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary. Laura currently serves as Associate Pastor at Rock Spring United Church of Christ in Arlington.
