Since its founding in 1974, MoCA Arlington has been committed to connecting the community to contemporary art and artists. The museum’s extensive education program, which includes programs for children and adults, is core to this mission. Classes and workshops take place at the museum and, since January of 2024, at MoCA Arlington’s new Innovation Studio + Store in National Landing. Through partnerships with community organizations, schools, and universities, MoCA Arlington also hosts classes, workshops, and enrichment programs across northern Virginia.
All of MoCA Arlington’s educational programs are led by experienced artist instructors. Through their talent and dedication, MoCA Arlington is able to offer instruction in a wide range of media, from drawing and painting to photography and ceramics. In Best of Class, MoCA Arlington is proud to highlight a selection of work created by some of these artist instructors as part of their own artistic practices.

More about the artist instructors:
Lindsay Mueller is an artist and arts educator based in Arlington, VA. Mueller received a BFA in Painting and a BA in Psychology from Boston University, and she is currently working towards an MFA in Visual Arts at American University. Mueller’s paintings and drawings consider human relationships to local landscape, often emphasizing chromatic inventiveness, ambiguous spaces, and moments of connection through mark making. Since moving to Virginia in 2019, she has exhibited her work at galleries including Gallery B in Bethesda, Brentwood Arts Exchange, and the Katzen Rotunda at American University. In 2023 she received the Bethesda Painting Young Artist award, and she is a recipient of the Carol Bird Ravenal Art Award for artistic research.
Jason Horowitz is an artist who lives and works in Arlington, VA. His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the US and abroad, including the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center. He has also received several grants including an Aaron Siskind Foundation Individual Photographer's Fellowship, a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Individual Fellowship, and a Franz and Virginia Bader Fund Grant. His practice explores ways to engage with and interpret the world through photography from medium format black and white to abstracted still-life images of food to close-ups of people in the studio.
