New Rep Theatre presents DIASPORA! | Through October 15
Sunny, a writer tracing her lineage to find a long-lost grandparent, searches for answers in history. Time begins to cross over to Boston during the rise of the civil rights movement and a certain young minister making waves at the Twelfth Baptist Church and Boston University. DIASPORA! was a SpeakEasy Stage commission as part of the Boston Project, developed and workshopped in Boston from 2017-2019.
Sips and Salsa | October 15
This fundraising event begins with small bites and a cash bar in the MBar. Then, a 45-minute salsa lesson in the lobby gallery is followed by dancing to the percussive rhythms of Chica Fuego and the Gringos! Come to dance or just to enjoy the vibe!
Open Mic Comedy |October 20
The evening of laughs will be hosted by members of MCA’s Advanced Improv class. Entrance will be free, and there will be cabaret seating at tables in our lobby, additional tables in the MBar, and plenty of standing room. New and experienced comics will perform in short sets of about 5 minutes each.
Magic Dyke presents Haunted Tales | October 21
Run, don't walk to get your tickets for this one fright night creature feature of monsters, ghouls, and all things that go bump in the night! Featuring some of the best local burlesque, drag, and circus performers in Boston and inspired classic horror anthology series, this revue promises to be a scream!
Upstage Lung Cancer Why Don’t We…Just Dance? | October 24
Joyce Kulhawik returns as emcee for the 15th year for this outstanding concert series supporting cancer detection research. The theme celebrates life through song and dance with toe-tapping, up-tempo tunes and spectacular dance acts.
Authors & Innovators Business Ideas Festival | October 26
This panel discussion is the final event of the 7th Annual Authors and Innovators Business Ideas Festival. Today’s emerging leaders need to work harder, smarter, and know what matters. That means tracking the latest developments in tech, retaining and attracting the right team, considering the broader community, and understanding that the only constant is change.
Post Meridian Radio Players present The King in Yellow and Night of the Living Dead | October 27-29
Two live audio plays: an original horror-comedy based on The King in Yellow, and an adaptation of the classic horror film Night of the Living Dead. In The King in Yellow, a community theater tries to produce a cursed play rumored to drive its readers mad. In Night of the Living Dead, a group must cooperate to survive as they are besieged in a remote farmhouse by living corpses risen from the grave.
Watertown Children’s Theatre The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe | October 27-29
This dramatization of C.S. Lewis' classic work faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten Narnia. This production features a cast of actors in grades 3-5.

In Depth: Life in Photographs and
40 Seasons of Love: Photography Exhibition | Through November 5
Photography, from its early beginnings, has captured fascinating glimpses of humanity. From formal portraits to snapshots of daily life to photographs of humans at work or just being, In Depth: Life in Photographs, in our first floor gallery, is inspired by the depth and complexities of being human.
In our second floor Watertown Savings Bank Gallery, follow the four-decade history of Watertown Children's Theatre as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of this outstanding youth program.
Conversation with Caitee Hoglund | October 19
In this workshop, Caitee Hoglund, Gallery Director of 13FOREST in Arlington, will cover topics such as what a gallery director looks for when reviewing a portfolio or a website, how to approach a gallery, how important is a social media presence, and what not to do when trying to get a gallery representation. Hearing from an experienced gallery director like Caitee will hopefully make things clearer for artists of all ages and stages of their careers.
A call for art for Members Exhibition 2023 has a deadline of October 6. Artists may submit artworks in any medium.
Artists are also sought for our first Holiday Makers Market to be held on November 25 & 26. The deadline for artists to apply is October 15.
