ANNUAL BENEFIT & MOSESIAN AWARDS

Join us on May 24 for MOVING FORWARD! Invitations have been mailed for our 2023 Annual Benefit and Mosesian Awards, and you can support this event by reserving your tickets now!

This event will celebrate Mosesian Arts’ strides toward becoming a regional destination for the performing and visual arts. Honorees of the evening’s Mosesian Awards are internationally acclaimed Sayat Nova Dance Company, moving culture forward throughout the world, and local arts hero Barbara Epstein, who as first president of the Board of Directors helped put the wheels in motion for an arts center at the Arsenal.

Proceeds from this annual event support great programming including:

- Free art exhibitions, artist talks, and opening receptions in our newly expanded galleries

- Exceptional programs in visual and performing arts education, including Watertown Children’s Theatre, while keeping costs low and expanding access throughout our community

- Diverse events on MCA's stages and in the community, including opportunities and access to the arts for older adults Aging Creativity, and American Sign Language (ASL) Storytime programs free of charge to libraries throughout Greater Boston and MetroWest

ON OUR STAGES

Moonbox Productions’ The House of Ramón Iglesia opens tonight and runs through April 30. It's 1983, and the Iglesia family is caught between two worlds. Aging and ailing, parents Ramón and Dolores are eager to leave their rickety house in New Jersey and return to their native Puerto Rico – but their three sons, all raised in America, are deeply divided on whether or not to go.

On April 28 & 29, the Post-Meridian Radio Players present an original full-length adaptation of the science-fiction classic Metropolis. Originally a novel and 1927 silent film that became a cult classic, both works have now entered the public domain and have been adapted with a full spoken script for staged radio theater.

Tickets are also on sale for our own Watertown Children’s Theatre production of Godspell, running May 12-21. Godspell was the first major musical theater offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden).

Other performances this spring include a free staged reading of Fireworks by contemporary Irish playwright Iseult Golden (April 30), The Avi Nussbaum Stand Up Show (May 15, in Hebrew), and The Briar & Rusty Show: Briar & Rusty in SPACE!!! (May 18).

IN OUR GALLERIES & CLASSROOMS

Our current exhibition, Printmaking and Social Engagement, explores traditional printmaking techniques and their relevance today in creating politically and socially engaged works. Plan to join us for a Gallery Talk with Artists on April 26.

Running concurrently through May 5 is Art in a Silent City, showing the work of Mount Auburn Cemetery Artists in Residence.

YardArt is also on display in Watertown this month! A community-wide celebration of creativity and fun in front yards, porches and windows all over Watertown, this program is open to all residents, families, organizations, clubs, classes, artists, and businesses through the end of this month.
