From Lagoon to Legacy: Venice and St. Mark’s Basilica with Sevan Melikyan - 9:00PM

Embark on a captivating journey through Venice’s origins to its zenith around 1500. Explore the city’s unique birth as a lagoon empire and its rise to power, with St. Mark’s Basilica as our guiding star. This iconic structure, one of Venice’s oldest and most magnificent, serves as a lens to understand Venetian artistry, ambition, and cultural evolution. This lecture unveils the historical backdrop that shaped the city’s early artistic achievements, setting the stage for Venice’s golden age to come.

Wildlife of the Shawangunk Mountains with David Johnson - 9:00PM

Join David Johnson as he shares images and stories of the native wildlife right here on the Shawangunk Ridge. “The Gunks” is a 47-mile long ridge of bedrock that has been designated by The Nature Conservancy as “one of Earth’s last great places.” David’s work has even been preserved by the Smithsonian.

The Gunks Ridge and Valley Towns Through Time with Ron Knapp - 9:00PM

The Shawangunk Mountains?the Gunks?are renowned for stunning landscapes on and off the ridge in a region that has remained a favorite destination for visitors since the middle of the nineteenth century. Join professor and author Ronald G. Knapp as he takes a walk through time viewing the rugged topography with glistening grey-white escarpments, jumbled boulders at the base of cliffs, deep crevices, as well as precipitation-fed “sky lakes.”

A collaboration of some of the finest players in the Hudson Valley featuring Will Bryant, Lee Falco, Connor Kennedy and Brandon Morrison, The HV Letters present an evening of rock and roll classics—both new and old. The band’s members have toured and recorded with some of the industry’s best, including Donald Fagen, Amos Lee, Joan Osborne, and many more.

The Art of Perception with Amy Herman - 9:00PM

The Art of Perception is an interactive program that engages participants in analyzing works of art as a vehicle to enhance their observation, perception, and communication skills. Looking at works of art as a group will challenge participants’ assumptions and refresh critical inquiry skills by incorporating multiple perspectives into their thinking. Amy Herman is a lawyer and art historian who uses works of art to sharpen observation, analysis, and communication skills. The program has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The CBS Evening News, and Smithsonian Magazine.

The Bootleg Boom with Frank Marquette - 9:00PM

In his spirited lecture, local theater director Frank Marquette takes you through the active role that the Hudson Valley region played in the bootleg route between New York City and Canada between 1920 and 1933. He’ll touch on gangland distilleries, speakeasies, and the local “whiskey women”.

Washington’s Secret Six Culper Spy Ring with Robert Ulrich - 9:00PM

Washington and his troops are outmanned, outgunned, outspent, and out supplied. Names, some still unknown to this day, were part of a spy ring that helped save the American cause. As noted by a British officer of the time, we did not outfight the Redcoats, but we did out spy them! Local historian Bob Ulrich will walk us through his picture filled story of how this spy ring operated, and how it succeeded in bringing about the final victory against English oppression.
