A Night of Romance & Dance

On June 3rd, Roxey Ballet will perform at the Sieminski Theater in Branchburg, NJ presenting "A Night of Romance & Dance". Longtime Company Artist Giovanni Ravelo will be dancing in his own work "Narcisa". Read more about the piece below!

"An impossible love where she is much older than he, Narcisa tells the story of a love that will never be. She loves him as a man, he views her as a friend, and as her beauty fades with age she holds onto the beauty of the young man. The duet is choreographed by Roxey Ballet's professional artist Giovanni Ravelo to the piano soundtrack by composer Michael Nyman. It is an abstract ballet where the man faces upstage and away from the woman, only to finally come face to face at the end. This tale of unrequited love is beautifully translated by dancers Giovanni Ravelo and Xiaoxiao Cao."

Roxey Ballet's May Education Recap
Roxey Ballet teaching artists are finishing out the academic year strong at all their schools across New Jersey. This week, teaching artists Christina D'Astoli & Danny Rocha completed their dance residency at St. James School in Woodbridge, NJ. Over 16 weeks, students learned about the basic elements of dance (time, space, & energy) & were able to explore these elements through lessons focused around their Catholic faith. Teaching artist Christina reflected on her experience at St. James saying that, "it was a really special residency for me because I grew up going to Catholic school & it really shaped me into the person I am today. I was honored to be able to bring my love of dance to them!"

The pictures below are from this week's final lesson with the youngest group (grades Kindergarten to 2nd grade). Students had a fun time learning the basics of partner dancing including the waltz & salsa!
