River Dance Festival profile highlight:
Tuula Cox
Tuula is the founder, dancer, and visual artist of Capricious Dance Company of Narnia. The company focuses on positive social impact through dance and mixes different dance styles from classical dance to house dance and animation.
"When I found house dance in 2015, I found a world of expression that celebrates individuality in a manner that is not egoistic. On the contrary, the culture makes you humble – it keeps reminding you that as much as one has value, one also has a duty to contribute to the world with something good and dignified. In my movement, I like to mix the dance styles I have done throughout my life - but the purpose for my movement always rises from the joy that is distinct to the house dance culture. If I could, I would have everyone in the world participate in it. I do not have that power – but I have the power to dance. I hope that my dance will plant a seed of curiosity for this movement in whoever sees it."
"Since moving from Europe to the US I have been just soaking in all the new artistic influences and preparing for a debut on this side of the globe. I cannot wait to have CDCN perform our first piece on US soil, especially since we get to do it in a place as beautiful as New Hope."
Tuula's creation "Daphne and Paraclete" can be seen at the River Dance Festival on Saturday, August 19th at 4pm. She will also be performing in another piece called "Seasons" choreographed by her husband Byron Cox on Friday the 18th and Sunday the 20th.
