Two Days only!

Friday May 31 and Saturday June 1 at the Merc Playhouse in Twisp.

Tickets on sale now.

Doors open at 6:30pm and show begins at 7:30pm.

The work utilizes dance, live music, and video to explore the challenges, grief, and triumphs of the aging woman, dancer, and artist as they transition into the realm of middle age.

From the International Examiner: “Role models in the modern dance scene have included veteran dancers such as Martha Graham, Isadora Duncan, and Ruth Saint Denis, but the modern dancers we typically see on stage these days are generally young. But now, four career dancers in the Seattle area have formed a dance collective, Four on the Floor, and Karen Garrett de Luna joins Diana Cardiff, Sara Jinks, and Sarah Paul Ocampo in this group to present Good for Her Age, a meditation on aging, sexuality, and dance.”

Spotlight on the artist...

King Youngblood

King Youngblood is focused on reclaiming rock music, specifically black fronted rock packed with strong song writing, Afropunk attitude and an undeniable exhilarating live show. Alternative Press calls King Youngblood “Seattle’s Alt Rock Princes” - they sure got that right. Twenty-four-year-old founder and front man Cameron Lavi-Jones, along with, drummer Paul Stoot, cellist Chet Peterson, and bassist Samy Garcia have a singular mission: grab heavy guitar/drums rock by the collar and drag it into the willing arms of the fresh new generation of fans currently fueling the world-wide resurgence of rock music. The world agrees with affirming descriptions including AfroPunk Magazine in October 2022 declaring “King Youngblood’s skill at transforming a small phrase into a massive hook is at this point unparalleled in the world of heavy music.”

La Fonda

La Fonda is an indie rock band fronted by Filipino-American sisters, Valerie and Veronica Topacio. Centering their songs around themes of sisterhood and navigating the chaos of adolescence, addiction, xenophobia, and gentrification––to name a few––La Fonda creates sonically atmospheric, shoegaze-inspired tracks falling somewhere between dream-pop and alt-rock. They are joined by Jesse Cole on guitar and Bryan Dever on Bass.

Their sophomore album We Are Infinite dives heart-first into the emotional depths of their journey so far and explores the struggles of living in their hometown of Seattle. 2023 was a breakout year for the band, as their record was named one of the Top 10 Albums of the Year by The Seattle Times, landed on KEXP’s Top 90.3 Albums of 2023, and was recognized by NPR as one of the “Top Shelf” performances in the Tiny Desk Contest.

Director's Corner...

Now I understand the meaning of "hitting the ground running"... That's what we have been up to over at the Methow Arts office. This week we concluded our needs assessment for the Arts in Education program by talking with superintendents, administrators, community stakeholders, and educators across all 6 school districts that we serve. Big thanks to Maddie Lee James for doing this very important work and driving all over Okanogan County. We concluded our work at the new Community Foundation office in Omak with a big group of stakeholders serving kids across the northern part of the county. As you may know, our schools are facing significant budget cutbacks that will directly impact many arts programs in public school across the county. We will have more news for you in the coming weeks about the "Okanogan Youth Arts Program" and how you can support it.

In addition, we are hiring for a communications and marketing manager so we can get our much beloved Arts Magazine back up and running. We look forward to getting it back into our community in early 2025 with an updated look and new content.

I'm so excited about our upcoming performances of Good for Her Age at the Merc. It's fun to try new things and see everyone back at Methow Arts events. I am also planning and scheming what to wear to our fun vintage Vegas themed ArtsFest "Viva Twisp!" One of the most fun things to do in our community over the summer. If you would like to volunteer please send Patti an email at [email protected], we would love to have your support.
