Clubs and Organizations

You may have seen news coverage of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memorandum earlier this week that ordered a temporary pause on federal grants and loans. Follow-up guidance from OMB about the freeze and next steps for impacted grants included our network’s primary source of federal funding, the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program.
This could have stopped reimbursements from flowing through states to our community-based Meals on Wheels providers for vital services delivered. After much confusion and public outcry, the order was rescinded yesterday.
In case you missed it, our president and CEO, Ellie Hollander, spoke out on CNN about the potential impact to Meals on Wheels and the seniors it serves.
While this is a small victory, we know the fight to protect Meals on Wheels funding is far from over.
For more than 50 years, Meals on Wheels has been a proven public- private partnership that effectively addresses the challenges of aging by promoting health and improving the quality of life for millions of seniors. Through the Meals on Wheels network, we not only keep seniors healthy and independent at home where they want to be but also save billions in tax dollars by keeping them out of more costly healthcare settings.
None of this happens without the generosity of people like you.
You believe that older Americans should live without fear of hunger and malnutrition. You understand that safety checks help keep seniors healthy. And you know that a visit from a caring volunteer lifts spirits.
The Meals on Wheels network’s resilience and solidarity is unyielding, and we are more committed than ever to ensuring every senior who needs Meals on Wheels gets it.
Thank you for standing with us now and in the future.
Sincerely,
Meals on Wheels America
