Mayor Wu Called Before Congress

Government and Politics

January 29, 2025

Boston, MA - Mayor Michelle Wu has been called to appear before the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and we commend the committee for its due diligence in investigating the impact of sanctuary policies on public safety and federal immigration enforcement. Following recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests in Boston-including multiple MS-13 gang members, murder and rape suspects, and a Haitian gang member with 18 prior convictions-it is more critical than ever that Mayor Wu be held accountable for policies that attract dangerous individuals to Boston and put public safety at risk.

MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale issued the following statement:

“When speaking to her progressive supporters or friendly media outlets, Mayor Wu proudly defends her sanctuary policies, claiming they stand on solid legal ground. However, the recent ICE arrests in Boston prove beyond doubt that sanctuary policies endanger public safety. Every time the Mayor prioritizes her own pride and politics over common sense, more criminal illegal immigrants are drawn to Boston—putting Massachusetts residents at risk and forcing federal authorities to step in. If Mayor Wu truly believes in her policies, she should have no issue defending them before Congress. Bostonians deserve accountability. We call on Mayor Wu to testify and justify her extreme stance before the American people.”
