From: University of Michigan Museum of Natural HistoryWe are delighted to announce that former U-M Museum of Natural History Planetarium Manager Matt Linke has established the Matthew Linke Planet of the Ops Fund. Matt retired in June 2021 after 32 years as planetarium manager, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and passion for astronomy and education.
The Matthew Linke Planet of the Ops Fund derives its name from the group email address Matt used to stay connected with former student planetarium operators, with whom he had worked closely throughout his tenure. The fund’s name serves as a heartfelt tribute to the strong bonds and camaraderie built over the years.
Having overseen the day-to-day operations of the planetarium, Matt understands the hard work and commitment required to offer dynamic programs to museum visitors and preK-12 school field trip groups. He knows what it takes to keep things running smoothly—including the manpower and technological advancements necessary to create captivating shows and experiences.
With the establishment of this endowment fund, Matt's goal is to ensure that the U-M Museum of Natural History’s planetarium continues to thrive in perpetuity. The fund will provide crucial financial support for hiring and training student operators, facilitating the acquisition of new shows, and updating essential equipment.
We are sincerely grateful to Matt for his remarkable dedication to the growth and success of the planetarium. His commitment to enriching the lives of museum visitors and students is inspiring.
