Boston, MA - The Massachusetts Republican Party strongly opposes any additional taxpayer funding for the ongoing migrant crisis absent reform, which has spiraled into a taxpayer-funded humanitarian disaster. Massachusetts residents have already been forced to shoulder more than $1 billion to sustain a failing emergency assistance system that has become a breeding ground for crime and a never-ending financial black hole. Without meaningful reforms-many of which have been championed by Republicans-there is no justification for continuing this reckless and dangerous spending.
MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale issued a strong statement on the proposed supplemental budget, saying:
“The Healey-Driscoll Administration and the Democratic supermajority have demonstrated time and again that they are incapable of managing this crisis. Instead of prioritizing public safety and fiscal responsibility, they have chosen political pandering at the expense of both taxpayers and those caught in the broken shelter system. Thanks to a MassGOP FOIA request, the full extent of the horrors occurring within these migrant shelters has been exposed. Given these disturbing revelations, how can Democrats, in good conscience, continue funneling taxpayer dollars into this failed system? If this supplemental budget is passed without critical Republican-led reforms, it will be yet another instance of irresponsible spending with no real solution in sight. The only viable path forward is through reform.”
The MassGOP remains committed to fighting for transparency, accountability, and meaningful reform in how Massachusetts handles this crisis. The party urges lawmakers to reject wasteful spending and instead enact policies that protect taxpayers and restore order to the emergency assistance system.
