serpentwithfeet: Heart of Brick
Saturday, October 7, 8pm

Three genre-defying artists join forces to tell the story of unpredictable romance & self-discovery in Heart of Brick, a theatrical dance and music production that ponders on the spirit & magic of Black queer nightlife. This gentle and sincere love story features music from serpentwithfeet’s newest album, weaving together music and dance into a theatrical experience.

Step Show: The Musical

Maxine Lyle’s new work STEP SHOW: THE MUSICAL is a two-act theatrical production, currently in progress, that showcases African American step dance and its role in Black college life. Infusing body percussion with hip-hop, R&B, and soul, this intergenerational coming-of-age story takes a riveting ride through the world of step dance and its imprint on Black culture.

UPCOMING EXHIBITION

Like Magic
Member Preview October 28, 6pm
On View Beginning October 29

How to survive and thrive in a chaotic world? In times of uncertainty, people often turn towards technologies of magic for solace and strength. These technologies are not the props used for stage magic (rabbits in hats, scarves hidden up sleeves) but rather are tools (devices, talismans, rituals, incantations) created by humans to help them survive and thrive in a chaotic world.

The exhibition Like Magic brings together artists who employ technologies of magic to resist systems that attempt to surveil and control people’s lives and stories, often because of their race, ability, sexuality, gender identity, indigeneity, or immigration status. Simone Bailey, Raven Chacon, Grace Clark, Johanna Hedva, Gelare Khoshgozaran, Cate O’Connell-Richards, Rose Salane, Petra Szilagyi, Tourmaline, and Nate Young use healing earth, witches’ brooms, AI, divination, and more to imagine care-full and joy-full futures into being despite the peril promised by the past and present.

Fall for Fall at MASS MoCA
Don’t Miss that Berkshires Beauty

Our fall hours (10am–5pm, Wednesday–Sunday) kick in on Wednesday, October 11. With hints of orange and red lining our campus and the Berkshire hills, now is a perfect time to visit — we are still open 10am–6pm, six days a week (closed on Tuesdays), and your admission ticket is always good for two days. Plan your visit (while the Pumpkin ice cream lasts at Lickety Split) — and be sure to connect with us at this weekend's Fall Foliage Parade in downtown North Adams, too.
