In this presentation, The Philip Glass Ensemble performs Glass’ score live alongside the screening of Godfrey Reggio's cinematographic masterpiece, Koyaanisqatsi, a unique and haunting look at the super-structure of modern life, integrating images, music, and ideas contrasting scenes from America’s natural and urban landscapes.

Audience Catalogue Launch with Amy Podmore & Jessica Fisher

Join us for a conversation in our Research & Development Store with artist Amy Podmore and former MASS MoCA Curatorial Assistant Meghan Clare Considine about Amy Podmore’s recent exhibition, Audience, and exhibition catalogue. They will be joined by poet and translator Jessica Fisher, who contributed a new poem to the catalogue.

Join us in the R&D Store for a conversation between artist Amos Paul Kennedy and MCLA Professor of Art Melanie Mowinski about Amos' new monograph, Citizen Printer. A self-described “humble Negro printer,” Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr., is internationally recognized for his type-driven messages of social justice and Black power, emblazoned in rhythmically layered and boldly inked prints made for the masses.

Printmaker and MCLA professor Melanie Mowinski will give a short artist talk and share her work during this evening of art-making. Following Mowinski's presentation, she will guide participants through a printmaking process that is accessible to all: rubber stamp carving. Leave with a small edition of prints made with Mowinski’s portable press!

Jeffrey Gibson: POWER FULL BECAUSE WE'RE DIFFERENT

Jeffrey Gibson’s upcoming commission POWER FULL BECAUSE WE’RE DIFFERENT will fill MASS MoCA’s signature Building 5 gallery space, and will be home to a series of performances by Indigenous creatives from across North America. Celebrate and preview the exhibition before it opens to the public by joining us on November 2 for a conversation with Gibson and Albert McLeod (human rights activist and a director of the Two-Spirited People of Manitoba), an Opening Preview Celebration, and concert by the trailblazing singer ANOHNI.

To celebrate the opening of Jeffrey Gibson’s installation POWER FULL BECAUSE WE’RE DIFFERENT, the trailblazing singer, songwriter, and visual artist ANOHNI returns to MASS MoCA for an intimate concert with pianist Gael Rakotondrabe in MASS MoCA's Hunter Center. Her work across genres examines her relationship to ecocide through the lens of her trans experience.

Last week, we were honored to be visited by Senator Ed Markey, who stopped by to tour MASS MoCA (along with North Adams Mayor Jennifer Macksey, State Representative John Barrett, and other guests) and presented a certificate of Congressional Recognition on the occasion of our 25th Anniversary, acknowledging our collective contributions to the culture and economy of Western MA, and in recognition of outstanding and invaluable service to the community.
